Rocky the Snake delights residents along Canyon Falls trails

There’s a 28-foot snake on our Canyon Falls trails, but don’t worry. Rocky the Snake doesn’t bite; he just delights.

Rocky was the brainchild of Canyon Falls resident Julie Strohl, who was inspired when her grandson visited over spring break.

“I thought it would be a fun activity with my grandson during his vacation, so I was able to collect several rocks at work,” Julie said. “We had fun painting them during the week and then on the weekend, he picked a spot on the trail to put Rocky.”

Julie found a perfect triangle-shaped rock for Rocky’s head, and they painted in his eyes, nose, scales and other details. The second rock, an oblong shape, bears Rocky’s name. It’s followed by a series of colorfully decorated rocks, with a few natural stones also in the chain.

The length of Rocky has continued to grow as Canyon Falls residents add more rocks, including many Kindness Rocks. These rocks are readily available in Canyon Falls, as it has long been a tradition for residents to make and leave them for neighbors to find throughout the community.

Rocky is located along one of Canyon Falls’ many trails, just west of the bridge across Graham Branch Creek, in the natural area behind the Canyon Falls Club pool.

Canyon Falls has approximately 15 miles of hard- and natural-surface trails, and Rocky the Snake is just one of the treasures waiting to be discovered along them. Learn more about our trails.
